Database Purpose and Funding

The California Crash Data Dashboard (Dashboard) is part of the implementation of California’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). The purpose of the Dashboard is to provide traffic safety professionals and stakeholders, including partner agencies of the SHSP committee, with direct access to crash collision data to support data-driven analysis and tracking of key performance indicators and categories identified in the SHSP. The Dashboard allows for customized filtering and tracking based on primary data characteristics. The data can be further filtered to examine and analyze the progress of the Strategic Action Items identified in the SHSP as “Challenge Areas”. The Dashboard provides organization, facilitation, data analysis and technical assistance to the State of California for the evaluation, development, execution, and reporting of the SHSP, action plans, outputs, outcomes and countermeasures, and allows the State of California to make recommendations to ensure the Federal requirements are met.

The development of the Dashboard was funded by the Highway Safety Improvement Program, pursuant to Agreement Number 51A0502, approved on July 12, 2018.
